Operational activity 

As at 31 July 2024, the National Anti-Corruption Commission (the Commission): 

  • is conducting 30 preliminary investigations 
  • is conducting 29 corruption investigations, including 8 joint investigations 
  • is overseeing or monitoring 19 investigations by other agencies 
  • has 6 matters before the court 
  • has 429 referrals pending assessment. 

Over the period from 1 July 2024 to midnight Sunday 28 July 2024, the Commission: 

  • received 180 referrals 
  • excluded 148 referrals at triage stage 
  • opened 3 new preliminary investigations 
  • opened 3 new corruption investigations.

Commission to host APSACC 2026 in Canberra 

The National Anti-Corruption Commissioner, the Hon Paul Brereton AM RFD SC, has announced the 2026 Australian Public Sector Anti-Corruption Conference (APSACC) will be hosted by the Commission and held in Canberra. The conference theme will be APSACC 2026: A strategic approach to integrity – culture, systems and accountability

The announcement was made on the final day of this year’s APSACC, held in Darwin and hosted by the Northern Territory Independent Commissioner Against Corruption. Held every two years, APSACC is the leading anti-corruption event in Australia with a primary focus on preventing, exposing and responding to corrupt conduct and corruption risks in the public sector by sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas and collaborating with partners from across Australia, the region, and internationally. 

This announcement follows the publication of the Fundamental Principles for Anti-Corruption Commissions and media release earlier today.
